What we achieve
Fostering innovative and sustainable bio-waste management and circular bio-economy in the Mediterranean area
The project promotes the implementation of sustainable bio-waste management to reduce environmental impact and create social and economic benefits in the EU MED area.
Based on this, CirBioWaste will establish a platform that represents the experience and knowledge exchange of different countries involved in the project. The activities related to fostering awareness to ensure proper quality of the bio-waste separated at source, and proper use of the recycled products.
At local level, the CircBioWaste consortium will support the 10 associated partners acting as project “takers” to jointly adapt already validated bio-waste management solutions in their territory. 7 local administrations and 3 university campuses in 6 EU MED countries (two in Spain, one in Italy, two in Portugal, two in Greece, two in Bulgaria, and one in Slovenia) will benefit from the final tangible results, such as strategies and action plans, to facilitate the transition towards more sustainable and circular bio-waste management solutions.
Project results

As a result, CirBioWaste will create a transnational and collaborative space among the 10 EU MED local territories, project partners and associates (representing the wide diversity of the EU MED context – involving 12 NUTs3) where to jointly assess, design and implement, together with local stakeholders, the best technical solutions (and complementary instruments) to be adopted.
At international level, CirBioWaste will amplify its positive impact and broaden its support to the whole MED area by offering open capacity building sessions, training webinars, a supporting toolkit (including best practices, technical guidelines and decision support tree-self assessment) and a project knowledge platform, as well as an assistance support to other interested public administrations and stakeholders involved in the bio-waste value chain.
